At the Creative Musicians Retreat, composition is an interactive process involving the input of professional performers as well as fellow participants and faculty. Original composition is a fundamental outgrowth of Walden’s program of creative musical education and is a central activity of the Retreat. Many participants compose a piece for the Ensemble-in-Residence and workshop the piece during the Retreat. Compositions are presented at the Composers Forums. Participants take composition lessons and attend master classes with the faculty and Composer-in-Residence.
