Josh Modney, feted by The New York Times as a “superb violinist” and “new-music luminary” hailed for “brash, energetic performances,” will be joining The Walden School to perform four of Bach’s legendary violin sonatas and partitas…with a twist! The show will start at 7:30 on Sunday, July 2nd in the Fountain Arts Building on the campus of the Dublin School.
While Josh Modney’s career is dedicated to performing contemporary music and collaborating closely with composers on new work over extended time periods, he also is known for exploring adventurous interpretations of the standard repertoire. With that in mind, he will be performing these sonatas using Just Intonation, a system of tuning based on mathematical ratios that appear in nature, but which has been replaced by the modern Equal Temperment system. Modney’s performance will allow us to hear these classics in a completely new way.
The program will include these violin works by Bach –
Sonata in G minor, BWV 1001
Partita in B Minor, BWV 1002
Sonata in C Major, BWV 1005
Partita in D Minor, BWV 1004
