The Walden School Teacher Training Institute curriculum is based on the approaches to musicianship teaching developed by the late Grace Newsom Cushman, founder and director of the Junior Conservatory Camp and former faculty member at the Peabody Conservatory. The curriculum is a living curriculum and has been continually refined, developed and improved over the past 40 years by Walden faculty members, both at its Young Musicians Program and now, faculty members of the Teacher Training Institute. Participants in the weeklong intensives offered by the Teacher Training Institute participate in sessions in musicianship, solfege and rhythms, computer musicianship, and choral singing, and participants in Level II (the second year of the Institute) participate in jazz musicianship courses.
