The Walden School Young Musicians Program (YMP) seeks creative young people (ages 9 through high school) interested in music, music improvisation, and music composition. Prior experience in music composition or improvisation is not necessary, although we do require that students have completed at least 1 year of private instrumental instruction.
The application requires that you complete and send to The Walden School the following:
- $50 non-refundable application fee
- Teacher Recommendation (form provided in application packet)
- Short personal statement / essay
- Completed Application Form
Additionally, you may also submit the following:
- Financial Aid Application and accompanying tax information
- Recordings, scores, samples of creative work, or other materials
On occasion, for students 11 and under, we are able to consider a 2- or 3-week session, although there is no guarantee that we are able to provide this program. Students who have reached their 12th birthday by July 1 are not eligible for a shorter session.
The Walden School does not offer a day-program option. All students must live on-campus in order to participate.
Tuition, Room & Board, and Financial Aid
Tuition, room and board for the 2017 Young Musicians Program is $7,900. This fee covers all meals, housing, instruction, concerts, coachings & lessons, supervision, laundry and recreation fees. This amount does not include transportation to and from The Walden School.
All admitted students, regardless of financial aid application status, are eligible to request an interest-free payment installment plan.
A large percentage of students in 2016 received need-based financial aid, with award amounts ranging from 10-80%. The completed financial aid application and current year tax documentation are required to be eligible. Please do not hesitate to contact us with questions regarding tuition and financial aid.
