Location
Located at the Dublin School in Dublin, New Hampshire, Walden’s Young Musicians Program is nestled in the scenic Southern New Hampshire region at the base of Mount Monadnock. Music camp at Walden is the perfect way for students to spend a summer immersed in music as well as the natural beauty of New England.
Beginners to Advanced
The Young Musicians Program is designed for students 9-18 years old. Students can begin as early as upper elementary, middle school and all the way through high school, including the summer before college. Some students have little formal composition experience when they start, others are more advanced. All students enjoy musical creativity.
Experienced Faculty
In addition to their many talents, the faculty and staff of the Walden School are trained in performance, composition, conducting, theory, and pedagogy.
Community
The Walden experience doesn’t end when our summer programs conclude. Walden offers year-round programming, including alumni events and composers forums, as well as online & interactive workshops throughout the year.
Outcomes
Walden alumni are among America’s most promising young musicians (composers, performers, teachers, and scholars), and regardless of career choice, a Walden summer encourages learning, growth, and a lifelong appreciation of the creative process.
Summer Concert Series
The Walden School offers 20+ free public concerts, composers forums, and other musical events for Walden students to participate in, with celebrated artists from around the world.
Creativity is at the heart of everything we do at Walden. Through the study of composition, improvisation, choral singing, and our unique musicianship curriculum, students are inspired to develop their own creative, musical voice. Exciting artist residencies, excellent and supportive faculty, premiere performances of students' original music, and delightful recreational activities make Walden a summer music program for students ages 9-18 like no other.
Located in Dublin, New Hampshire, the Walden Young Musicians Program runs from June 24-July 30, 2023.
Walden is now accepting applications for the Young Musicians Program.
YOUNG MUSICIANS PROGRAM 2021 ONLINE INFORMATION SESSION
Join us for an upcoming online, interactive information session led by Walden’s Executive Director, Seth Brenzel, alongside faculty members and alumni of the Young Musicians Program.
The Walden School strives to maintain a healthy balance between intensive music studies and non-academic recreation.
The first four weeks of the summer camp consists of classroom and individual instruction, chorus, Composers Forums, recitals and concerts, and special events provided by guests and Artists-in-Residence. Weekly mountain hikes, swimming at nearby lakes, dances, open mic nights, and special recreation activities are a regular part of a Walden summer.
The fifth and final week of Walden is Festival Week. Students present their creative work from the summer through concerts, Composers Forums, and demonstrations that are open to the public. Parents and friends are encouraged to attend these events.
We also offer the option for students who have not yet completed 8th grade to attend for the first three weeks, June 24-July 16.
The week-long festival in New England for composers, improvisers, performers, electronic musicians, choral musicians, and music teachers.
Adult participants at the Creative Musicians Retreat take classes, sing in chorus, attend improvisation workshops, hear concerts, and participate in Composers Forums. Courses include classes in Walden’s unique Musicianship curriculum, seminars on Contemporary Topics, and courses in electronic music. Our 2021 Composer-In-Residence will be Marcos Balter. He will be moderating three Composers Forums, conducting master classes, and giving private composition lessons. In 2021, the International Contemporary Ensemble will be our Ensemble-in-Residence, along with pianist David Friend and percussionist Matthew Gold.
