Overview

This summer, The Walden School is hosting a weekend of events to celebrate more than 65 years of outstanding Walden and Junior Conservatory Camp (JCC) history.

During the weekend of July 20-22, 2018, dozens of alumni and Walden friends will gather in the Monadnock region to experience the Walden/JCC magic once again.

While Walden’s Young Musicians Program is in full swing, alumni will have the opportunity to reconnect with friends, attend music workshops and an alumni Composers Forum featuring The Walden School Players and alumni composers, hike Mount Monadnock, and join in community singing. Friday night will feature a concert of alumni performers. Campus tours will highlight updates and improvements to the Dublin School grounds, including a brand new recital hall with air conditioning! Many of the weekend’s alumni gatherings will be held at Aldworth Manor in Harrisville, a wonderful Monadnock venue.

Families and children are welcome to attend. For alumni family members under 18, activities and limited childcare will be offered as alternatives to some of the reunion events. Please feel free to contact the Walden office for more information on children’s activities.

Early registration discounts are available, so register today!

Alumni Composers Forum

We’re excited to present an Alumni Composers Forum as part of this year’s JCC/Walden Reunion.

The Composers Forum will be co-moderated by Caroline Mallonée (Walden alumna, faculty member, and Director of Walden’s Creative Musicians Retreat) and Sam Pluta (Walden faculty member and former Director of Electronic Music). The Composers Forum will be 2-4pm on Sunday, July 22, in the Louise Shonk Kelly Recital Hall in Dublin, New Hampshire, on the campus of the Dublin School, and will be open to all participants attending the alumni reunion, as well as all students, faculty, and staff taking part in this summer’s Young Musicians Program. The event is FREE and also open to the public.

If you are interested in participating as a composer, you may submit up to two scores for consideration. Pieces can be scored for any combination of:

  • Flute
  • Clarinet
  • Bassoon
  • Violin
  • Cello
  • Piano
  • Percussion

If you would like to submit a piece including instruments not listed above, please submit the name of the intended performer(s). Such additional personnel would be entirely your responsibility to arrange. If you would like to include any electronics or other media (video, et al.), email us to inquire about the possibility. Electronics will need to be performed by the composer. Alumni composers must be present at the event to have their work performed. While works can be of varying length, it’s unlikely we would program any works more than 10-12 minutes in duration.

Submissions should be PDF documents and should include both the score and parts. We will do our best to present as many composers/works as possible, and we reserve the right to not include submitted works.

Scores, parts, and a completed submission form should be emailed to scores@waldenschool.org no later than June 1, 2018, in order to be considered for inclusion on the program.

If you have any questions about the Alumni Composers Forum, please write to us at alumni@waldenschool.org.
