The Walden School, a summer music festival for musicians interested in improvisation and composition, in residence each summer at the Dublin School in Dublin, New Hampshire, seeks a camp nurse for its 2023 summer session of its Young Musicians Program.
Responsibilities include working with the program director and director of operations to ensure health among the community’s approximately 50 students and 20 faculty & staff (Young Musicians Program); reviewing all medical forms and educating Walden’s faculty and staff regarding important information contained within; supervising the care of sick students or faculty / staff during the summer session; communicating and working with parents of students in incidence of student illness and/or injury; overseeing the disbursement of regular student medications; hiking with the community on Saturdays at nearby mountains; performing other duties as determined by the Executive Director.
The position is an hourly position, between June 19, 2023, and July 31, 2023. The ideal candidate could provide coverage throughout this time period.
The Camp Nurse’s primary responsibility is to work with the Leadership Teams, Faculty, & Staff to create and maintain a safe, healthy environment during The Walden School summer session in New Hampshire. The position reports to the Executive Director, and works closely with the Director of Operations and the program Leadership Team.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Participating in and leading parts of Faculty / Staff Orientation and regular Faculty / Staff meetings as necessary.
- Greeting participants, parents and students on arrival day and completing a health screening (including lice check); maintaining all on-going communications with parents regarding the health status of children in the care of The Walden School.
- Reviewing medical forms from students/faculty/staff and advising faculty and staff of any important information contained therein that affect the care of the students.
- Reviewing student dietary restrictions and possible food allergies and working with the Director of Operations in communicating with kitchen staff about maintaining healthy and safe student meal services.
- Checking in on any sick students throughout the summer session; providing care and arranging for supplementary care, as required.
- Managing and overseeing the disbursement of regular student medications, as required.
- Stocking and maintaining adequate first aid kits and over-the-counter medical supplies.
- Arranging doctor’s appointments as necessary and transporting students to and from appointments.
- Hiking four nearby mountains with the entire Walden community on Saturdays (July 1, 8, 15, and 22) and monitoring health/safety issues associated with any and all off-campus trips, including swim trips.
- Advising staff / faculty about any ongoing health issues in the community.
- Responding to health issues as they arise during the course of the summer program.
- Possibly training The Walden School faculty and staff in basic first aid and/or other health-related matters.
- Supervising nurse assistants (members of the staff team)
- Providing for health planning for summer, in particular as related to COVID-19 pandemic protocols and mitigation strategies.
- Performing health screenings and managing COVID-19 testing protocols, as determined and necessary.
Requirements: Must have valid and current New Hampshire nursing license (RN preferred). Ability to lift packages and boxes up to 25lbs is required.
Compensation: $35/hour. Meals on campus in dining hall. Possibility for this to be a residential position on campus at Dublin School. If interested in this arrangement, please inquire.

The Walden School (waldenschool.org) seeks an outstanding Administrative Manager to join our San Francisco–based administrative team. The ideal candidate is highly collaborative, a fast learner, exceptionally organized, has excellent written and oral communication skills (including email/online, letter, telephone and in–person formats), is an excellent project manager, and enjoys an office environment that is collegial, dynamic, and fun. The position requires enjoying interacting with people of many different backgrounds. Also required are a sense of humor, flexibility, fine attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Personal qualities of the successful candidate will include curiosity, warmth, resourcefulness, integrity, discretion, and responsibility. Walden’s mission, vision, and award–winning programs should excite potential candidates. An interest in music, music education, youth development, and/or another related field is desirable. Previous administrative or office management experience is preferred. While there are detailed job duties and functions listed below, given Walden’s small (yet mighty!) administrative team, the position requires someone who is flexible and adaptable to changing circumstances and who demonstrates a positive, can–do attitude.
