Call for scores - Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra

The Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra Young Composers Initiative is a unique opportunity for a young composer to have their piece rehearsed and recorded by one of the nation's best youth orchestras, conducted by Zander Fellow James Blachly.

Four of the composers come from local universities: New England Conservatory, Boston University, Boston Conservatory, and Harvard College. The fifth composer is selected from young composers who have studied at The Walden School in Dublin, New Hampshire.

Requirements:
Works must be 5 minutes or less in duration and scored for triple winds with standard doublings, 4-3-3-1 brass, strings, and timpani plus 3 percussion with standard instrumentation. Preference given to composers under 21 years of age, with particular preference for those still in high school. Several finalists will be selected by Walden faculty panelists, and the Boston Philharmonic will select the winning composer to participate in the project. Composers will need to be present in Boston for the reading/rehearsal/recording (March 21, 2015, from 2:30-7:30pm), and will need to be available for advance consultation with Maestro Blachly in advance of the project. Final parts (hard copy) will need to arrive in Boston no later than February 25, 2015.
